Questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The OCR engine and its English model download to your browser once and run there. The image is read in memory on your device and never sent anywhere.

Which languages does it read?

English, and other text in the Latin alphabet without accents comes out reasonably well. Other alphabets, such as Arabic, Chinese or Cyrillic, are not supported here.

How do I get the best result?

Sharp, straight, evenly lit text works best. Screenshots are ideal. For photos, hold the camera square to the page and crop away everything that is not text.

Which engine reads the text?

Tesseract, the open-source OCR engine (Apache 2.0 licence), compiled to WebAssembly by the tesseract.js project, with its LSTM English model.
