How to make a PDF smaller

      1. Drop the PDF onto the box.
      2. Pick Light, Medium or Strong. Strong gives the smallest file.
      3. Download the smaller PDF and check that it still reads well.

      Questions

Why can I no longer select the text?

To make the file smaller, each page is redrawn as a picture and saved as a JPEG inside the new PDF. Text and form fields are drawn into the picture as they look, but they can no longer be selected, filled in or clicked. Keep the original if you need to search or copy text.

      Which strength should I pick?

Light keeps pages sharp and suits documents with small print. Medium is a good default for email. Strong gives the smallest file and works well for scans and photos, but fine print can blur.

Why did my PDF hardly shrink?

A PDF that is mostly text and vector drawings is already compact, and turning it into pictures can make it bigger. The tool tells you when the original is smaller, so you can keep it. Scanned documents and PDFs full of photos shrink the most.

      Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The pages are drawn and saved by your browser. Nothing leaves your device.
