How are words counted?
A word is any run of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation, so “don’t” and “e-mail” count as one word each. Numbers count as words too, the way most word processors do it.
Do emojis count as one character?
Yes. The character count uses grapheme clusters, so a family emoji or a flag counts as one character, as you would see it.
How is reading time estimated?
At 238 words per minute, a commonly cited average for silent reading of non-fiction. Speaking time uses 140 words per minute.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. Counting happens in your browser and nothing leaves the page. Your text is not stored after you close the tab.
