Questions
Will my photos be uploaded?
No. The metadata is read and rebuilt in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Does removing the location change the picture?
For JPEG, no. The picture data is copied without re-encoding and only the metadata is dropped. A small orientation tag is kept so the photo still shows upright.
What about PNG, WebP and other formats?
They are redrawn in the browser, which drops their metadata. PNG stays lossless and WebP is saved at quality 0.95.
Which information is removed?
GPS location, camera make and model, dates, embedded thumbnails, comments, and XMP and IPTC tags. The JFIF header and colour profile are kept.
