How to set a countdown timer

  1. Pick a preset, or type hours, minutes and seconds, then press Start.
  2. Switch to Stopwatch for laps, and press Lap or L to record each one.
  3. Switch tabs if you like. The time stays right, and a tone sounds when a timer reaches zero.

Questions

Why does the timer stay accurate when I switch tabs?

It reads the clock rather than counting ticks. When it starts, it saves the end time, and each update subtracts the current time from that. Browsers slow down timers in background tabs, so a counter that adds one per tick can drift. This one does not.

Will the sound play if the tab is in the background?

The tone is generated in the browser and plays when the timer reaches zero, and the page title shows the time left while it runs. Your device volume and mute settings still apply, so keep the volume up.

Does the screen stay on while the timer runs?

Only if you tick the box, and only where the browser supports the Screen Wake Lock. The browser releases the lock when the tab is hidden, so the page asks again when you come back.

What do the lap times mean?

Each lap time is the time since the previous lap, and the total is the time since the stopwatch started. Reset clears the laps. Nothing is saved after you close the page.
