    Questions

    Will my image be uploaded?

No. The image is decoded and read inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and recent picks are kept only until you close the tab.

Why can a picked colour differ from another app?

The tool reads the pixel values the browser decodes, which are sRGB. Photos with a wide-gamut profile can look slightly different in other programs. Images larger than 6000 px are read from a 6000 px copy, so one pixel may differ a little from the full-size file.

How is the palette worked out?

The image is shrunk to about 100 pixels. Each pixel is rounded to 16 levels per channel and counted. The most common groups that are clearly different from each other become the palette, and each swatch shows the average of its group. It shows the main tones, not every colour.

What do HEX, RGB and HSL mean?

HEX is #RRGGBB, with red, green and blue each written from 00 to FF. RGB gives the same three numbers from 0 to 255. HSL gives the hue as an angle around the colour wheel, then saturation and lightness as percentages.
