Questions
Component or Full URL: which one?
Component encodes every character except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ), so use it for a value such as a search term. Full URL keeps the characters that give a link its structure (: / ? # & = + $ , ; @) and encodes the rest, so use it for a whole address. Full URL decoding keeps escaped structural characters such as %26 and %3D, so the link still works.
What does + for spaces mean?
Form data writes a space as +, not %20. Tick the box to match that. When decoding, + is read as a space only while the box is ticked. Leave it off for the path of a link, where + is a plus sign.
What happens to a broken escape such as %E0%A4%A?
Decoding reads each run of %XX codes and decodes every valid UTF-8 sequence. Anything that cannot be decoded, such as the cut-off %A at the end, is left exactly as written, and a warning says how many were left.
Is my URL sent anywhere?
No. Encoding and decoding run in your browser, and nothing is stored.
